The Data Vault vs. Kimball – Round 2

Here we go again, the discussion about the claimed benefits of the Data Vault. Thomas Christensen has written some great blog posts about his take on the Vault method. Dan Linstedt has been commenting.

The discussions are a good read to track:

As with most complex subjects, it is often hard to have people state with clarity what EXACTLY their claim is and what their supporting arguments are. It seems that the Vault is no exception – I hope the discussions lead somewhere this time.

Notice that there are some very interesting claims being made about normalization creating more load and query parallelism in the comments on Thomas Christensen’s Blog by Sanjay. I personally look forward to hearing the argument for that.

A Mobile Phone – How Hard can it be?

I have recently switched to iPad as my primary device for media viewing, music, book reading, email and to some extend blogging (though I still find Live Writer superior and even run VMware Fusion on my home Mac for that purpose alone). Because I no longer need a big screen on my phone, it is therefore time to go back to the old days.

Intermezzo–Data Modeling

From the very nice WordPress Dashboard, I can see that I now have over 100 regular readers. Comments are flowing in too.

Thanks to everyone who is listening, it is my hope that this blog can be a great place for debates about data modeling and high scale performance tuning. I was surprised that is was hard to find concrete guidance about data modeling for the warehouse on the web. Perhaps I am missing something out there?
